I have been given a list of 900 Dubai Islamic Bank's existing customers to call and introduce a new offer that DIB is offering on Auto Finance loans. i did not like the fact that some of the customers were rude on the phone or were in a hurry. I had to learn how to be patient with them.

The teller had given me a few mobile numbers of customers where i had to call them and ask them to come and collect their ATM cards from Dubai Islamic Bank, Abu Hail branch.

I filled a record of a variety of business cards onto a new excel sheet.
I had to write the:
1) Business Names
2) Activity of businesses
3) Contact Names of each business
4) Phone and Fax number
5) Email (if applicable)

Day 18

We had to introduce the takaful program and the Riayati program to the customers.
We also went through the cheque returns that we had put into excel for the manager. we had to make sure all the information was accurately recorded.

Day 17

We created an excel of all the cheque returns that had men's names in order to send them to the main branch of Dubai Islamic Bank.

Day 16

Today the manager gave us a brief summary about Dubai Islamic Bank and asked me and the diploma trainees to translate it from English to Arabic. This was one of tasks which which i have faced a problem at because i am not so well in translating English words to Arabic.

Day 15

I completed the segments column as well as all the other findings such as 'documents required', 'turnaround time', 'downpayment', 'Age', 'processing fees', 'profit rate', 'segments'.
The manager asked me and the other diploma trainees for the work that we had done and we had given it to her in a USB flash.

Day 14

I was done calling half of the banks as some of them did not give us the information about their segments.
The banks kept asking us if i were an employee and i had explained that its a project that i was assigned to do and that I am a DWC student.

Day 13

The manager asked me to add a new column to our 'Auto Finance' table that the trainees and I have created and call it segments.
Therefore, we had to call all the banks once again and find out at least three segments from each bank.

I filled up the table containing the banks that the manager wanted me to research on Auto Finance.

I am entering the information that i have collected from the banks about Auto Finance into the word document.
I have three more banks to call and get information about their Auto finance.

I was assigned to call six different islamic banks in the UAE and get specific information from them. These banks are:

6)Dubai Islamic Bank

The manager gave me a file of cheque returns in order to call the customers to come and collect their cheque returns. I faced a problem with one customer as she did not understand my arabic accent. I treated the problem in a professional manner by transferring the call to my manager.

I was assigned by the manager to check a file containing cheque returns and make sure that each one is written on the list of names of people that she gave me as well.

My mentor (Asma) was not feeling well and i had no work assigned on that day.

Day 5

Thursday 08/04/2010
The manager assigned me to go over a file containing no liablities letters and check the signature verifications on them and make sure the date is stamped showing that customer has received their bank cards.

Day 4

This was the second day my mentor was on training and therefore the manager assigned me to a new task which was to check the file about 'to whome it may concern letters' as well as check the signature verifications on each customers' photocopied ID that were filed.

Day 3

My mentor (Asma) and I discussed the difference between auto finance and personal finance
My customer service employee (Asma) later on that day left for training so i had no work assigned.

Day 2

Monday 05/04/2010
The manager asked me to observe one of the employee that was working as customer service.
My customer service employee mentor is Asma Sulaiman Ali.
My mentor presented to me a brief presentation about the bank.
I learnt about:-
1) Liabilities and assets of Dubai Islamic Bank
2) Fixed deposits
3) The difference between profit and interest. Profit is money that is made in halal areas in the market while interest money is made in all kinds of businesses.
4) Takaful Program which is when you invest money for a minimum of AED 500 per month and you may get profit every 3 months. You may choose to make this contribution monthly, quarterly, or just half a year or just annually.
5) Takaful Riayati Program is a life insurance where you just pay annually AED 250 for yourself only or just AED 400 for you and your spouse. The bank will then get to cover any death due to accident that you may face.

Day 1

On my first day of workplacement (04/04/2010) i went to Dubai Islamic Bank at Bustan Center branch and took permission from my assigned work mentor about transfering to Dubai Islamic Bank at Abu Hail branch. The reason i transferred was because my parents wanted me to work closer to where i live.
My current supervisor is Maryam Al Nuaimi
She is a branch manager of Dubai Islamic Bank at Abu Hail.
The first task was given to me by the manager and it was to read the bank's brochures and that she will be asking me questions about what i read and understood from the brochures.
